Umm Suqeim / Sunset Beach

Jumeirah Street, Dubai, Dubai

Description

Sunset Beach, also known as Umm Suqueim, is one of Dubai's better known and most popular beaches. Sand quality is fair, and the water is quite clear. This beach is well-known for providing some of the best photo opportunities of the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel. A few years back, lighting equipment was set up so that visitors are now authorised to swim in a 125x30m area until midnight.

Access & Transport

Access by car is easy but few parking options around so may make sense to come by taxi instead. Buses No 8, 81, 88 ply Jumeirah Beach rd, about 150m away from the beach.

Instructions & Recommendations

In a place with a very likely hot and sunny weather like Dubai, don't forget the usual protective equipment (hat/cap, "green" sunblock, sunglasses, slippers), towels and some water. In fact, we'd recommend going earlier in the morning and after mid-afternoon - and why not try the night swimming there!

Meta review

Very popular beach with reviewers who mostly enjoy the sunset and Burj Al Arab views - the corollary is that some visitors complain of the amount of tourists that come to take pictures.

Environmental & Social

No major infrastructure required and low carbon footprint. Socially neutral

Conclusion

A very good option for a tourist as it will also give you good photo opps - however, if you like less busy places you may want to look for alternative options such as Jumeirah Public Beach or some of the beach clubs / hotels private beaches.
