Description
Christ Church Cathedral (or Cathedral of the Holy Trinity) was built and expanded between the 11th and 13th centuries and extensively renovated in the 19th century. Highlights include the integrated stone bridge that links the church to the Synod Hall, the crypt (largest in Britain or Ireland), and the reputed tomb of Strongbow (a medieval Norman-Welsh peer and warlord).
Access & Transport
The church is located at the crossroads of St. Michael’s Hill, Patrick Street, and High Street, in the centre of Dublin. Several buses stop nearby and the closest tram stop is Four Courts (red line), 500m to the north across the river. The nearest car park is Q-Park Christ Church on Werburgh Street, behind Jury’s Hotel
Instructions & Recommendations
We recommend combining his activity with a visit of either Dublinia (in the Synod Hall) or Dublin Castle.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. Part of the city's architectural and historical heritages.
Conclusion
Christ Church is one of the landmarks of Dublin and, though not exceptional by international standards, would be well worth a visit if it was not let down by a pricing not in keeping with what it has to offer.
Key positive
Visually pleasing architectural ensemble
Interesting historical background
Key negative
Expensive
Suitability
Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility except for the tower (need advanced notice for the crypt). No religious denomination restrictions
