Farmleigh House & Estate - by Management
Description
Farmleigh is the official Irish state guest house for visiting dignitaries. The estate includes extensive private gardens and an historic Edwardian Mansion holding a library with rare books & manuscripts and several artworks such as paintings and tapestries.
Access & Transport
The estate is located to the northwest of the Phoenix Park, in Castleknock. The main access is via the Phoenix Park from White’s Road. There is free car park on site. By public transport, take bus 37 to Castleknock Gate and walk 15mins. Directions: https://farmleigh.ie/how-to-find-us/
Instructions & Recommendations
Best to use GPS coordinates rather than the official name when using map apps / satnav: 53.3661, -6.3516.
Environmental & Social
The main use is for official functions so visitors do not contribute any carbon footprint. Some architectural and artistic heritage value and the beautiful garden can be enjoyed by local residents free of charge
Conclusion
Not one of Dublin's prime attractions but we would recommend Farmleigh to anybody who enjoy beautiful estates and gardens and is no in a hurry to hit the city's touristic shortlist (or who has already done it). The historical aspect is enjoyable but not salient enough to warrant a trip on its own.
