Instructions & Recommendations

The museum is walking distance to Phoenix Park. The Guinness Storehouse and Jameson Distillery Bow St are also nearby, for those keen to learn about beer or whiskey production, respectively.

Meta review

Based on online reviews, most visitors seem satisfied with their time at the museum, in particular since there is no admission fee. They highlight the impressive building and how large the complex is, the eclectic mix of objects which sometimes betrays the lack of thread between exhibits, the overall interest of the content, and the proximity to the tram stop. The only recurring negative feedback is that the curation feels a little outdated.

Environmental & Social

Minor carbon footprint compensated by the repurposing of the barracks. Educational and helps share the country's historical heritage

Conclusion

This is effectively two museums in one for the price of none. It is housed in suitably repurposed army barracks. Nothing spectacular per se but definitely worth a visit for those keen to learn more about Irish history mostly seen from a military lens.
