Description
The Mercato Centrale comprises over 20 shops selling various fresh produces, cold cuts, and drinks on the main floor and cooked food stalls with a central seating area on the upper floor. The structure was designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni (of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II fame) who was inspired by the Parisian Halles using glass and iron.
Access & Transport
The market is 150m north of the San Lorenzo complex and 400m from the Cathedral. Bus C1 stops next to San Lorenzo and #1, 7, 52, close to the station The train station of Santa Maria Novella is 10mins walk away, as are several tram stops. There is underground parking.
Instructions & Recommendations
Outside the Central Market is the Mercato di San Lorenzo, which mostly sells leather goods - it is beyond the scope of this review.

Conclusion
Colourful and not far from the city center. Not the most cost efficient but still an enjoyable experience for those intending to buy food or looking for a lunch spot.
