Description
Piazza della Repubblica was the historic center of Florence, the site of the Roman forum. The square was completely renovated, widened, and the older buildings destroyed in the late 19th century. The main architectural highlights are the arcone (triumphal arch) and the Colonna della Dovizia (a.k.a. Column of Abundance). Otherwise, the square is known for its street performers and cafes.
Access & Transport
In the middle of the historical center of Florence, 2-3mins walk to both the Piazza del Duomo and the Piazza della Signorina / Uffizi. Bus C2 stops there on Via dei Brunelleschi.

Environmental & Social
Environmentally, there is no data at the neighbourhood level, but there are no green spaces. Part of the city's architectural heritage.
Conclusion
The square in itself is nice but not in any way dramatic by Italian standards. It is, however, the perfect opportunity to learn more about the city before the Renaissance, back during the Roman and medieval periods. Sit down at a café and read about it.
