Description
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque of Fujairah is the second largest mosque in the UAE (the largest is in Abu Dhabi). With 65 domes and 6 minarets of up to 100m in height, the complex is architecturally inspired by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
Access & Transport
The Mosque is in the centre of Fujairah City. The plus code is '48GH+G44 - Mohammed Bin Matar Rd - Al Ittihad - Fujairah' Fujairah City is along the shores of the Gulf of Oman, 70mins by car from Dubai
Instructions & Recommendations
Tourist visits only take place in the morning, after that only worshippers can enter. Visitors should also wear appropriate clothing. Other sights in the city include the Fujairah Museum and the Fujairah Fort
Environmental & Social
The energy intensity required for the visit and run the mosque is quite minimal and there is no negative social practice or community impact
Conclusion
An unmissable sight for those travelling to the Emirate of Fujairah but it lacks the historical background and the patina of centuries (it opened in 2015) to justify an inter-Emirate trip except perhaps from RAK.
