Parc La Grange & Parc des Eaux-Vives

1207 Quai Gustave-Ador, Genève, Genève

Description

The Parc La Grange is a 20ha urban parc in Geneva comprising a rose garden, orangeries, an alpine garden and an 18th-century manor house that contains an impressive library (Favre's book collection). Contiguous to it is the 4.5ha Parc des Eaux-Vives with a pond, a large collection of rhododendrons, a mansion transformed in a luxury hotel, and restaurant at the top of its slope.

Access & Transport

The parks are in the Eaux-Vives neighbourhood, on the eastern bank of Lake Geneva, 5mins from the Jet' d'Eau and from the Genève-Eaux-Vives train station. Buses 1, 9, 33 stop at the southern edge of Parc de La Grange and the tram stop Amandolier (12, 17) is just south of the Eaux-Vives train station.

Instructions & Recommendations

Obviously, the parks are best enjoyed on a sunny day

Meta review

Online reviewers do not make the distinction between the two parks since they form a continuous green expanse; comments are unanimously positive, often describing it as the nicest looking place close to the old town and perfect for either a walk or just sit down and take a break whilst admiring the views of the lake. The rose garden emerges as the most regularly mentioned highlight.

Environmental & Social

Green activity. Socially, it has a marginally positive impact on the community through an improvement in quality of life + preserves some of the city's architectural heritage

Conclusion

The parks are an inviting place for tourists and residents alike - whether to enjoy the sun or for a walk in a green environment without actually leaving the confines of the city. Recommended.
