Description
The Condom Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Condom) was built in the 14th century in Southern French Gothic style but had to be rebuilt in the early 16th century. It is noteworthy for its extensive buttresses, its cloister, its wide aisle-less nave, and its chiselled rood-screen accentuating the Flamboyant Gothic style of the interior.
Access & Transport
The church is in the centre of town. Condom is 45km northwest of Auch and 40km southwest of Agen.
Instructions & Recommendations
Other sights & attractions in town include several 18th-century townhouses such as the Hôtel de Polignac, the Place Saint Pierre, and the Musée de l'Armagnac .
Environmental & Social
We deem this attraction environmentally neutral and it is part of the town's architectural and artistic heritages.
Conclusion
There is no lack of visit-worthy religious monuments in the Gers department and this cathedral is one of them. The exterior is somewhat impressive, but it is inside that the church shines with a beautiful organ, pulpit, stained glass windows and a very striking, highly-detailed sculpted rood-screen.
