Gijón Aquarium - by Shane Pearce on Google

Description
Gijón Aquarium houses over 4,000 marine animals from 400 species in its 60 water tanks. These recreate various habitats such as the Asturian rivers, the Cantabrian coast, the Caribbean Sea, the great African rivers and lakes, or the South Atlantic Ocean. Highlights include the bull sharks, sturgeons, and rays.
Access & Transport
The aquarium is 1km west from the centre of Gijón and 1km north of the train station, next to Poniente beach where one can find parking space. Several bus lines (1, 4, 6, 12, 16) serve the 'Aquarium" bus stop. Gijón is 30km northeast of Oviedo (25mins by bus), along the Cantabrian coastline. Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this attraction with an exploration of the centre of town and a walk up to the Elogio del horizonte (monumental sculpture + park)
Environmental & Social
Some minor conservation / repopulation and breeding projects - not enough to compensate for the ethical issue of captivity. Operating the attraction would have some carbon footprint.
Conclusion
The Gijón Aquarium is a nice family activity but is nowhere near the best in the country and value for adults is quite mediocre. Not a tourist must see, in our opinion
Key positive
Good variety of species
Family-friendly activity
Key negative
Expensive pricing for adults
Nothing spectacular by international standards
Suitability
Accessible and suitable for all ages
