Description
The animal parc René Canivenc is operated by the Gradignan municipality. It welcomes, raises, feeds and heals animals given to it by the Conservatoire des Races d'Aquitaine, a non-profit organisation focused on regional animal conservation. There are over 50 species of mammals and birds including deer and wallabies. There is also an aquarium onsite.
Access & Transport
The parc is located at 53 rue du Moulineau, Gradignan. The easiest is to drive or cycle there, there is free parking onsite. It is also possible to reach by public transport from downtown Bordeaux with a Tram A /Bus 8 or Bus 24 / Bus 8 combination. Bus 8 stops on the southern side of the parc on Bd Malartic. Expect the total ride to take ~50/55mins
Instructions & Recommendations
There is a playground for kids and a picnic area. If you are driving, you may want to combine a visit there with wine tasting at Chateau Pape Clement or, alternatively, head to the countryside and visit the Château de la Brede.

It is green, a great activity to have for the community and the animals are being healed, raised and fed without any commercial intention - thumbs up on all fronts.
Conclusion
The animal parc René Canivenc is a low-key venue run by the municipality for a good cause and the enjoyment of residents and tourists alike. The concept is excellent and the execution pretty good; not a highlight of a trip to Bordeaux by any means but those with several days in the city and looking for family activities should enjoy it.
