Description
The natural reserve of the prés salés d'Arès et de Lège-Cap-Ferret is an inter-tidal area covering over 400ha at the northern tip of the Bay of Arcachon, between the town of Ares and Lège-Cap-Ferret. The mudflats and salt marshes are home to a large biodiversity including protected plant and bird species. Visitors can follow the paths (4-6km out and back) indicated on boards or hire the services of a local guide.
Access & Transport
Arès is about 1h drive along the D106 from Bordeaux There are 2 access points to the natural reserve: from the oyster farming harbour of Arès or from the "cabane du Résinier" in Lège-Cap Ferret.

Expect it will be muddy so wear appropriate shoes (boots ideally) and check the timing of the tides.

The salt marshes of Arès-Lège make for a very enjoyable, uncrowded and original walk, a stark contrast from touristy Cap Ferret and Arcachon. Recommended if you are in the area, have proper footwear and enjoy discovering various plants and animals.
