Guadix Cathedral (Catedral de la Encarnación de Guadix) is a Roman Catholic church commissioned in the 16th century and completed in the 18th. There was a long series of architects over the decades and the predominant style is Baroque. It is most pre-eminent in the façade, alternating concave and convex lines, with a large central span flanked by two lintels composed of groups of broad-based columns. It is possible to climb up the bell tower, over 30m high, as part of the "Esencial" ticket that also provides access to the religious art permanent exhibition.

This is a place of worship so visitors should behave appropriately and dress conservatively. Note that last admissions for the cathedral and tower are 60'/90' before closing time, respectively

Meta review

The cathedral is considered the main attraction in town and, although it isn't of the calibre of the most important churches in the country, its beautiful architecture and high-quality decoration and religious art place it one notch above most of the other provincial cathedrals. The views from the top of the bell-tower are also highly enjoyable and worth the climb according to visitors.

An icon of the city, the cathedral is worth visiting for anybody going through the area. It has a nice mix of religious art, impressive architectural and decorative features, and the climb to the tower provides good views over town and the surrounding countryside.
