Chocoversum Chocolate Museum

1 Meßberg, Hamburg, Hamburg

Description

CHOCOVERSUM by Hachez defines itself as Hamburg's chocolate museum. A 90mins guided tour (available in English or German) takes visitors through various exhibits and demo covering all steps in the production process, starting from the cocoa beans. A workshop is also included where visitors can design and keep their own chocolate bar.

Access & Transport

Address: Messberg 1, 20095 Hamburg The venue is next to Underground Meßberg underground station (U1) and the bus stops of U Meßberg and Steinstraße. For those coming by car, the area around Pumpen and Burchardplatz provides paid parking for up to 60 minutes. For longer duration, the car park “Deichtorhallen” (Oberbaumbrücke 1) is closest to the museum.

Instructions & Recommendations

Visit is only by guided tours; it is best to book at least one day in advance to get the discounted online price and ensure availability. Other attractions nearby include the Mönckebergstraße (shopping street) and the Arts and Crafts Museum.

Meta review

The majority of online reviewers are satisfied with the enthusiasm and knowledge of the guide and the experience in general, but a considerable proportion feels that the whole organization was too obviously focused on generating maximum revenues (bunching groups close together) and that the price was too high. Another recurring comment is that there should be more information boards along the way.

Environmental & Social

We deem this activity marginally negative from an environmental standpoint due to the electricity consumption and socially neutral

Conclusion

Chocoversum is an enjoyable experience but is completely let down by its pricing which is at odds with the education aspect it tries to project. If not for that mindset issue, we would recommend the experience to those who are unfamiliar with the chocolate making process.
