Description
The Elbe Philharmonic Hall (Elbphilharmonie) is a concert hall in the HaifenCity neighbourhood of Hamburg. It was designed by the famous architect firm Herzog & de Meuron and the building has become a symbol or the city's rejuvenation. The design blends historical heritage and modern: old brick warehouse at the base crowned by a glassy top that suggests a wave or sail. The building has 26 floors, topping at 108m and the Plaza, on the 8th floor, is open to the public. It houses 3 concert venues and a hotel (Westin Hamburg Hotel).
Access & Transport
The building is at the western end of HaifenCity, just south of the Warehouse district. The HADAG Elbphilharmonie ferry pier serves the venue by water, the Am Kaiserkai (Elbphilharmonie) bus stop (2, 11) by road and the Baumwall station by metro (line 3) is 500m away.
Instructions & Recommendations
There are occasional guided tours in German or English for 20€ per person; advanced booking is required. Link: https://www.elbphilharmonie.de/en/tours#concert-hall-tours
Environmental & Social
The only environmental data we could find is that the old brick warehouse was reused, thereby saving resources. By extension, it had a positive effect in making the harbour attractive again
Conclusion
The Elbphilharmonie is difficult to miss in the city's skyline and since no visit to the city is complete without touring the Warehouse District, it is but a short hop to check out this architectural marvel.
