Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this activity with a walk around the Alster Lakes area and/or the Planten un Blomen park.

Meta review

The museum is seldom put to the fore by travel magazines though it is mentioned in most travel guides for the city. Online reviews are very consistent and mostly positive: visitors enjoy the cultural and geographical variety, the well-crafted exhibitions that change regularly, the beautiful and atmospheric building, the cool café, and friendly staff.

Environmental & Social

Some environment impact to run the museum (mostly electricity). Positive from a social perspective by helping spread culture and the arts.

Conclusion

MARKK is a great cultural activity that does not overlap with the more classical and better-known museums; as such it complements nicely the Hamburger Kunsthalle. Whether or not it should be on your agenda depends on how much time you have and your interest in cultures from all "corners" of the world

Key positive

Large variety of cultures and regular rotation of temporary exhibitions

Seldom crowded and not expensive

Key negative

A little out of the way

Suitability

Suitable for all ages and mostly accessible for wheelchair users with some restrictions (refer to Access & Transport section for more info)
