Museumshafen Oevelgonne - by Peter Horn on Google
Description
The museum harbour Oevelgönne is a berthing area for traditional ships and historic boats in Övelgönne, in the western part of Hamburg. It is run by an association looking to preserve historic ships used on the Elbe River that would otherwise have been scrapped. Access to the jetty is free and some of the boats can be visited (case by case basis) or hired (they are all kept operational / sea-worthy)
Access & Transport
The open-air museum is located on the northern bank of the Norderelbe at the Neumühlen/Oevelgönne jetty. The easiest and most enjoyable way to get there is by ferry (62). Bus #113 is also an option.
Instructions & Recommendations
The museum lists the upcoming sailings that visitors can book. Spaces are limited so these should be done ahead of time.
Environmental & Social
We deem this activity environmentally neutral. It helps preserve the city and region technological heritage + reuse existing vessels (repurposing)
Conclusion
Ship lovers will really enjoy this "conservation area" but other visitors should as well. Plenty of photo opportunities, a riverside setting with several dining venues, and some unusual vessels. Not a must-see but a good option for those with extra time in the city or region.
Key positive
Plenty of well-maintained old ships of different kinds
No entrance fees
Key negative
A little out of the way (but there are quick ferry connections)
Suitability
Suitable for all ages and partially accessible for visitors with reduced mobility (jetty ok but won't be able to board most ships)
