Promenade du Peyrou - by Management on Google

Description
The Promenade du Peyrou is an esplanade located just west of the historical Ecusson neighbourhood in Montpellier. It was developed in the late 17th century, together with a triumphal arch, as a promenade from where the Cévennes and Pyrénées mountain ranges could be admired. An equestrian statue of Louis XIV was added in 1718 followed by the aqueduc Saint-Clément, bringing water from outside the city, and the adjacent neo-classical château d'eau (water tower) in the mid-19th century.
Access & Transport
The promenade and aqueduct are in the western side of the city centre, 200m southwest of the cathedral and 800m from Place de la Comedie. Tram line #4 stops there at 'Peyrou - Arc de Triomphe'. There are two paid parking around the esplanade: 'Montpellier Peyrou Pitot' and 'Parking Des Arceaux'
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this attraction with the nearby cathedral and Jardin des Plantes.
Environmental & Social
We deem this attraction environmentally neutral. Part of the city's architectural heritage.

The promenade somehow lacks in historical substance and can feel like a collection of unrelated monuments but still, it has some character and offers some of the best views in town
Key positive
