Description
The Hermitage of El Rocío (Santuario Nuestra Señora del Rocío) houses the carved wood statue of the Virgin of El Rocío and is a popular pilgrimage place on the second day of the Pentecost. The statue of the Virgin and Child is not realistic; the only carved parts are the face, hands, and the Christ child. The present building was designed in 1961 and built over the next two decades.
