Description
The Trinity River is the principal tributary of the Klamath River, in North-western California. This review is for the 12km half-day (3h-4h depending on water flows) operated by Six Rivers Rafting on Class III+ rapids around Pigeon Point starting at either 11h00 or 13h00. This section is family friendly and adequate for beginners and intermediate levels. The operator provides all safety equipment. All participants need to be able to swim and the minimum age for this option is 7years old.
Access & Transport
The check-in is at the Willow Creek rental shop of Six Rivers Rafting. Willow Creek is 75km / 1h drive northwest of Eureka on the CA-299.
Instructions & Recommendations
All online reservations must be made in advance, though the operator does its best to accommodate last minute visitors. On occasional cool spring days, wetsuits, booties, and splash tops are provided at no extra cost. Apply some sun block before the trip, wear closed shoes and bring one bottle of water per person. Do not bring your phone (no reception + risk of losing / damaging it).
Environmental & Social
Eco-friendly activity. This helps support small independent operators and the local rural economy
Conclusion
Rafting on the Trinity River for half a day with 6 Rivers Rafting is, in our opinion, a fantastic option for those looking to add a bit of thrill and "active tourism" to their itinerary. It blends discovery of the region, fun and social elements. It isn't cheap but we do think if offers fair value.
