Castle of Ibiza - by Juan Diego R.C. on Google
Description
Ibiza Castle is located within Eivissa's Dalt Vila (the Upper Town of Ibiza). It was built in the 16th century on top of existing Muslim structures and has long housed the seat of government of the island and its army. The complex consists of the Castle, the Almudaina (House of the Governor), and the military barracks.
Access & Transport
The castle is next to the cathedral, at the top of Dalt Vila, a few mins uphill walk from the main (modern) area by the port. Bus 45 goes almost all the way up to the cathedral and Cami del Calvari provides road access from the back. Ibiza airport is only 10km to the southeast and bus 10 provides transport into town. There are ferry routes to Denia, Valencia, Barcelona, Mallorca and Formentera leaving from the port of Ibiza town.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit of the castle with a discovery of the Dalt Vila neighbourhood.
Environmental & Social
No environmental impact and helps preserve the town's architectural and historical heritages.
Conclusion
The castle is worth a quick look for those already in Dalt Vila, mostly to enjoy the views over town and the harbour, but we do not think it is worth a special trip from anywhere on the island given the lack of historical and technical information provided on site.
