Description
Dalt Vila refers to the upper part of Eivissa (Ibiza town), the historic center. The main architectural feature is the defensive walls built during the 16th century to protect the town from attacks by the Turks; they have a heptagonal shape with bastions at each angle. The main door is called Portal de ses Taules and it is accessed through a drawbridge. Besides the gates and narrow streets, the main attraction is the cathedral of Santa Maria d'Eivissa.
Access & Transport
The upper town is a few mins uphill walk from the main (modern) area by the port. Bus 45 goes almost all the way up to the cathedral Ibiza airport is only 10km to the southeast and bus 10 provides transport into town. There are ferry routes to Denia, Valencia, Barcelona, Mallorca and Formentera leaving from the port of Ibiza town.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a walk through Dalt Vila with a visit of the Castle of Ibiza.
Environmental & Social
Activities there have a low environmental impact bu this is an urban ara with no green spaces. Tourism provides revenues that help preserve the city's architectural heritage
