Beylerbeyi Palace - by Management
Description
The Beylerbeyi Palace was an Imperial Ottoman summer residence and official entertainment venue built in the 1860's. It was commissioned by Sultan Abdülaziz and designed in the eclectic "Second Empire" (or Napoleon III) style by Sarkis Baylan. It is best known for its impressive reception hall, the use of blue columns and its beautiful facade when seen from the Bosphorus.
Access & Transport
The Palace is just north of the Bosphorus Bridge, on the Anatolian side. There are yellow minibuses (dolmush) going to/from Üsküdar. By public transport from Eminönü or Beşiktaş, it is faster to transit through Üsküdar. From Eminönü / Sultanhamet, take the underground Marmaray line to Üsküdar station and, from Beşiktaş and Kabataş, take a ferry.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of Ortaköy Mosque across the Bosphorus Bridge and an exploration of the Üsküdar district (the Kuzguncuk neighbourhood is 1.5km away).
Environmental & Social
No data available regarding environment and social practices and policies. Visits help preserve the city's cultural and architectural heritages
Conclusion
The Beylerbeyi Palace would be a must see if not for its much bigger sibling Dolmabahce Palace. It is very much worth visiting but we would suggest not to cover both on the same day and, if pressed for time, the latter is on a totally different scale. That being said, Beylerbeyi is the perfect addition to a half day discovery of the Üsküdar district and that's in this context that we would suggest you visit it.
