Nişantaşı - by Elena Shaknazarova on Google
Description
Nişantaşı is one of Istanbul's most expensive residential and commercial areas comprising the neighbourhoods of Teşvikiye, Maçka, Osmanbey and Pangaltı in the Şişli district. It holds a large expat community and is well known for its neo-classical and art nouveau buildings. Highlights include Abdi İpekçi Street (Turkey's most expensive shopping streets), Ihlamur Kasırları, Maçka Park, Teşvikiye Mosque; and the Abdi İpekçi monument.
Access & Transport
The Osmanbey metro station (M2) in on the western edge of the area and there are several bus stops along Halaskargazi Cd.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining an exploration of this ara with a visit of Dolmabahçe Palace
Environmental & Social
Urban setting with one park (Maçka). Neutral from a social perspective
Conclusion
Nişantaşı is probably an area best enjoyed by residents rather than travellers to the city as it holds few tourist attractions. Many upscale hotels are located there
Key positive
One of the better shopping areas
Clean and safe neighbourhoods
Key negative
No unmissable monument or definite tourist highlight
Some streets can get busy at times
Suitability
Accessibility for visitors with reduced mobility depends on each store and the area is not entirely flat, which could be tiring for non-motorized wheelchair users
