Description
Jaén is the capital of the namesake province and Spain's main centre of production of olive oil. During the al-Andalus period, the territory was disputed between the taifas of Córdoba, Granada (and Toledo occasionally) and was finally conquered by the Almoravids in 1091. It was surrendered to Ferdinand III of Castile in 1246. Landmarks include the 16th century Cathedral, the Arab Baths, the Museo Ibero and Museo Provincial, and the Santa Catalina Castle.

The town is 125km east of Cordoba (A4/A311), 60km southwest of Ubeda and 90km north of Granada (E902/A44). There are direct buses to Granada (1h journey)
