Santa Catalina Castle, Jaén - by Management
Description
The Castle of Santa Catalina overlooks the city of Jaén in Andalusia. Originally, an 8th century Moorish fortress stood there but after King Ferdinand III of Castile captured the city in 1246 an ew structure was built comprising five towers and a donjon. Not much of the old castle was left after the construction of a parador (luxury hotel) in the 1960's. The top of the hill is crowned by a monumental Christian cross. Trivia: General Charles de Gaulle stayed in the parador while writing his memoirs
Access & Transport
The castle is to the West of the city centre, atop the hill along Carretera al Parador.
