Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade & Avenue of Stars

Avenue of Stars, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon

Description

The Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Avenue of Stars are located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, offering unobstructed views over the Hong Kong Island skyline. It thus is a popular place to watch the Symphony of Lights night show. The avenue honours celebrities of the Hong Kong film industry (it is modelled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame). Along the 440-metre promenade, the story of Hong Kong's one hundred years of cinematic history is told through inscriptions printed on nine red pillars, plaques honouring the celebrities are set on the floor and there is also a 2m bronze statue of Bruce Lee.

Access & Transport

The promenade is at the tip of the Kowloon Peninsula and easily accessible by public transport (bus and 2 MTR stations: East Tsim Sha Tsui and Tsim Sha Tsui) as well as with the cross-harbour Star Ferry.

Instructions & Recommendations

It is best to go on a clear day (no rain or fog) and, even better, at nightfall. Next to it, visitors can also find the Hong Kong Space Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. You can also combine this activity with the Star Ferry harbour crossing or other harbour cruises.

Meta review

All visitors are positive about the views from the promenade. The reviews about the Avenue of Stars itself - and its content - is a lot more mixed with many feeling it lacks interest whilst other think it is a good opportunity to learn about HK cinema stars.

Environmental & Social

Urban concrete neighbourhoods are never the most environment friendly, by their very nature (high concentration of mercantile activities, little green spaces). Socially neutral.

Conclusion

The Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Avenue of Stars are really 2 attractions. The promenade offers unmatched view over the Hong Kong Island skyline and is best visited around sunset time and during the Symphony of Light show. Then, there is the HK cinema legends side to it, for people interested in stars generally; but for anybody else it offers little interest.
