Description
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow (MOCAK) displays contemporary works, mostly dating from the 21st century and by Polish artists. The neo-modern building was designed by Claudio Nardi and houses both a permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
Access & Transport
The museum is located inside the complex of the former Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory at Lipowa 4, on the right bank of the Vistula River, 300m east of the Zabłocie train station and 500m southwest of the Zabłocie tram stop. The museum does not have its own car park but there are free parking spaces in the surrounding streets. Accessibility info: https://en.mocak.pl/information-for-the-disabled
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this museum with the branch of the Krakow Historical Museum, in the same building complex.
Environmental & Social
No environmental data about the building but it was constructed purposely to house this museum, which is a negative. Socially slightly positive as it helps spread culture and the arts
Conclusion
Not a priority for those with only a couple of days in Krakow, even modern & contemporary art fans might be underwhelmed, but it does provide a change from historical monuments and attractions.
Key positive
The best place for contemporary art in the city
Easy to get to by public transport
Key negative
Weak permanent collection
The artwork won't interest everybody
Suitability
Accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. Best for adults and children aged 15 and above.
