20 Rynek Kleparski, Kraków, Małopolskie

Description

Stary Kleparz is a covered marketplace with stalls selling fresh produce and Polish specialties, these include fruits & vegetables, meat, cheese, baked goods, spices, flowers as well as clothing and household items. It was founded in the mid-14th century, which makes it the oldest continuously operating marketplace in Krakow.

Access & Transport

The market is located at 20 Rynek Kleparski, 200m north of the Barbican and Krakow Old Town. The Stary Kleparz tram stop is a 2 mins walk away.

Instructions & Recommendations

Come in the first half of the morning to witness the market at its most active with locals. We suggest combining this attraction with the Barbican, in Planty Park, and an exploration of the Old Town.

Meta review

Generally listed as one of the best markets in Krakow by travel blogs but not considered a major attraction by guidebooks, Stary Kleparz is described as genuine and not touristy with very reasonable prices. It is both vibrant in the morning and low-key, nothing like the most famous markets in other large European cities.

No environmental / sourcing data The small producers' aspect is a positive from a social perspective. Not over-commercialized

Come here for the local experience if you are planning to cook, not to be dazzled.
