Haro town, La Rioja

Haro - by Fred Hunter on Google
Description
Haro is the main town in the wine producing region of Rioja Alta (western Rioja). Architectural highlights include the neoclassical City Hall, the Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Vega with its Baroque altarpiece, the portal of the Church of St. Thomas, and the Baroque Palace of the Counts of Haro. Otherwise, there are plenty of Bodegas in and around town, many of which offer visits and wine tasting.
Access & Transport
The town is 47km northwest of Logroño along the AP-68 and 40km southwest of Vitoria-Gasteiz (AP-1 & N-124)
Instructions & Recommendations
We strongly suggest visiting one of the Bodegas. Some of them require advanced bookings and/or have fixed guided visit schedules so best to look into it ahead of time.
Environmental & Social
The main activities in the town have a low carbon footprint. Tourism is a welcome injection of activity and revenues in the local economy
Conclusion
Haro makes for a nice stop on a road trip but, unless you are into wine, it doesn't warrant a meaningful detour on the strength of its cultural highlights. However, if bodegas are on your shortlist, then you are in the right place
Key positive
Several well-rated bodegas are walking distance from the centre of town
Key negative
Not that much to see
Suitability
No restrictions
