Vivanco Museum - by Paco Monllor on Google
Description
The Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture exhibits artefacts devoted to the relationship between man and wine over the millennia; there are centuries-old vessels, artworks, farming tools and other instruments. The museum is located on the estate of an operational winery in the Alta Rioja, a region known for producing some of the best red wines on the Iberian Peninsula. The self-guided museum tour is supported by an audio-guide app available in English, French and German.
Access & Transport
Address: 232 Carretera Nacional, 26330 Briones - La Rioja The winery is just outside the village of Riones, along the N-232 between Logroño (35km) and Haro (9km). Vitoria-Gasteiz is only 50km to the north.
Instructions & Recommendations
The winery also offers combined tickets for museum + winery visit as well as various tasting options. We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the town of Haro, 9km away.
Environmental & Social
The set up required a significant investment and needs a fair amount of electricity but nothing unreasonable either. Some educational and cultural aspects.
Conclusion
Quite a unique museum and very topical in La Rioja region. Great set up, good and varied content that will be of interest to wine afficionados, but pricing is off the mark.
Key positive
Sleek curation
Great complex with opportunity for wine tasting and a restaurant
Key negative
Expensive self-guided museum visit
Suitability
More interesting for adults. We think the museum is accessible for wheelchair users but we are not certain so best to check with management ahead of time
