Six Flags Magic Mountain, Santa Clarita

26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia, California

Description

Six Flags Magic Mountain is an amusement park located 55km northeast of downtown Los Angeles. It holds the record for the highest number of roller coasters in one park with 19 of them; there are also family and children rides. There are a total of 11 themed areas such as DC Universe, The Underground or Six Flags Plaza.

Access & Transport

The park is just off exit 170 from I-5 N. More driving directions info: https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/plan-your-visit/directions Accessibility info: https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/plan-your-visit/accessibility

Instructions & Recommendations

Take note that, for safety reasons, many rides have minimum height requirements so children will not be able to get on all of them. Opening hours change every month so please check the website: https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/plan-your-visit/park-hours

Meta review

Online reviews are littered with fakes (both pro and con) but the essence is that the rides are excellent, when they do work - and that seems to be the main grudge for visitors, with the consequential impact on waiting times which is exacerbated by the 'flashpass' system. With everything at a premium, including parking, the cost per ride ends up being very high. Some negative comments about staff attitude and litter on the floor but we can't ascertain whether those are genuine. What is clear is that the focus is on short term cash flows and not customer satisfaction, the Covid-closure won't have helped in that respect.

Environmental & Social

Some Corporate standard ESG wording without much substance and some environmental initiatives such as promoting the use of solar power but this remains an energy intensive business (to power the rides + lighting). Creates some local employment.

Conclusion

Six Flags Magic Mountain has some thrilling rides but the experience is likely to be negatively impacted by the long waiting time which makes the value of a day there debatable, especially considering tickets are quite pricey. This attraction is probably best for LA county residents rather than international travellers who should have better ways to allocate their time.
