Biscarosse beach, Landes

Avenue de la Plage, Biscarrosse, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Description

Biscarosse beach is situated along France's Atlantic Cote d'Argent. The golden sand beach has good to excellent waves year-round and is a popular spot for surfers. The Biscarosse Plage development is set back about 200m off the beach so it can hardly be seen; it includes seasonal accommodation for rent and the usual F&B, groceries and other beach stores.

Access & Transport

Driving instructions: from the northern side and Arcachon / Dune du Pilat take the the D218 (between the lake and the ocean) and from the southeast use the A63 expressway until exit 17 at Liposthey and then drive through Parentis and Biscarosse.

Instructions & Recommendations

Make sure to bring your beach wear, towels, bio sunblock and sunglasses. Also be aware that the currents can be strong if you plan to swim and not just play on the beach or dip your toes. For family with younger kids the lake of Cazaux-Sanguinet 4km inland provides a safe swimming alternative. Other activities such as an Aqua Park can be found there.

Meta review

Visitors to the beach and Biscarosse Plage are generally very happy with their experience; the quality of the beach, the waves and the proximity of the lake being the highlights. The main recurring negative comments relate to the beach being crowded during the summer holidays (at least the section with lifeguards) and not being cleaned properly.

Environmental & Social

No carbon footprint linked to this activity. Some economic benefits to the local community but increased commercialization also has its drawbacks

Conclusion

Biscarosse Beach is an excellent beach option along the Landes coastline. The small purpose-built resort in not attractive but the beach has good surf and the lake 4km away provides optionality, especially for families with younger children.
