Valporquero Caves - by Carolina SG on Google
Description
The cave of Valporquero has a visitable itinerary of 1300m, taking in six halls in the process through a concrete path and some stairs. Expect to see plenty of the usual geological formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and speleothems.
Access & Transport
The caves are next to the town of Valporquero de Torío, in the north of the province of León, 45km from the city of León. Take the LE-311/LE-315 to Felmín and turn left for the last 5km. There is a parking on site.
Instructions & Recommendations
The temperature inside is only 7˚C so make sur you bring a sweater with you. Shoes with a rubber sole are also a good idea. There is also an option for a longer route but departure times are limited and advanced online booking is required.
Environmental & Social
Green attraction (except for the lighting). Helps preserve the archaeological and natural heritages of the region and provides economic activity that benefits the surrounding villages
Conclusion
An excellent addition to a regional itinerary that should please visitors of all ages. Nothing truly exceptional if you have seen other caves, but very much enjoyable nonetheless.
