Description
The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, a.k.a. MUSAC, labels itself as a "museum of the Present" and exhibits contemporary artwork from the curent generation of regional, national, and international artists. It was designed by the studio of Luis M. Mansilla and Emilio Tuñón with multicolour exterior panels reminiscent of the stained-glass windows of a cathedral. The MUSAC Collection is not permanently displayed in the museum's halls, but rather through temporary exhibitions organized around specific curatorial projects.
Access & Transport
Address: 24 Avenida de los Reyes Leoneses The museum is 1km northwest of the city centre and 800m from León's train station. There is a bus stop 150m away along Av. de los Reyes Leoneses. The nearest public car park is Junta de Castilla y León, a 5mins walk away.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the Convento de San Marcos, 600m away.
Environmental & Social
Some environment impact to run the museum (mostly electricity) built purposely which is resources intensive. Spreads the arts
Conclusion
We think the museum is let down by its lack of strong permanent collection. As such, MUSAC is probably best reserved to contemporary art fans or residents who can take a bit of risk with their time and might just be rewarded for it, or not.
