Description
The Rua Augusta Arch commemorates the reconstruction of Lisbon after the devastating earthquake of 1755. The triumphal arch has six stone columns topped by statues of various historical figures, with the allegories of Glory, Valor and Genius at the center. There is a staircase and a lift to visit the arch with a terrace and an exhibition in the Clock Room.
Access & Transport
The arch is in the historical centre of the city, a short walk from the Tagus River. Trams 15 and 25 stop at Pç. Comércio, right next to the monument, tram 28 at 'R. Conceição', and the Terreiro do Paço metro station (blue line) is 2mins' walk away.

Conclusion
The Arch's location is such that it is unlikely visitors will need to make a detour to include it in their itinerary. Some good picture and the perfect opportunity to learn more about the earthquake that flattened the city and make European philosophers think very hard during the Age of Enlightenment.
