Description
The Santa Justa Lift (Elevador de Santa Justa) connects the lower streets of the Baixa with the higher Largo do Carmo (Carmo Square) in the center of Lisbon. The iron structure was built in 1900 in Neo-Gothic style with a lookout on the top floor, 45m above ground level.
Access & Transport
The elevator is on the namesake Santa Justa street, next to the Camo Convent and very close to Praça Dom Pedro IV. The Baixa Chiado (green & blue lines) and Rossi (train and green line) are both a 2mins walk away
Instructions & Recommendations
The elevator is managed by Carris, the public transport company that operates in Lisbon, so the ride is included in the 24h ticket
Environmental & Social
We deem this attraction environmentally neutral. Part of the architectural heritage of the city
Conclusion
The lift is a must see, but not a must ride. Perfect for pictures or if you have a valid public transport ticket (24h+) but otherwise not worth queuing and paying for.
