Description

The Co-cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda was built in the 16th century in Gothic style (with further expansions thereafter). Its façade is characterized by two slender towers and ornate portals, and the interior contains a remarkable baroque altarpiece (represents the image of the Tree of Jesse where the Virgin appears) and other noteworthy works of religious art.

The church stands in the centre of Logroño, facing the Market Square. Bus 9 stops 100m away at 'Glorieta Doctor Zubia' and number 10 at Plaza de Abastos.

Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this activity with an exploration of the city centre of Logroño and a visit of the Museum of La Rioja.

Meta review

Consistent online review for this cathedral that is qualified as a must-see when in Logroño not quite warranting a trip on its own. The highlights for most visitors are either the frescoes (in the Capilla del Santísimo) or the retables (the main one in particular)

Environmental & Social

The ongoing environmental footprint is low, and the attraction helps maintain the city's artistic and architectural heritages

Conclusion

This is a church for religious art connoisseurs and enthusiasts, including pilgrims on the Way of St James. Worth taking a quick look for any visitor in town.
