Museo de la Rioja - by Maira Fuquen on Google
Description
The Museum of La Rioja is housed in the baroque palace of Espartero de Logroño and primarily exhibits paintings and sculptures from the 12th to the 19th centuries (including the tables of San Millán de Suso). The collection is complemented by sections dedicated to ethnography, antique furniture and archaeological finds, and contemporary art.
Access & Transport
The palace is situated in the centre of Logroño, just north of Calle Breton de los Herreros. Bus 10 stops 100m away at Plaza de Abastos. Logrono is a 2h train ride from Zaragoza, 85km southwest of Pamplona, 65km south of Vitoria and 115km east of Burgos.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with an exploration of the city centre of Logroño and perhaps a visit of the co-cathedral.
Environmental & Social
Reasonable carbon footprint (a/c and lighting). Helps preserve the region's historical and artistic heritages + some educational aspects
Conclusion
The Museo de la Rioja is one of those provincial museums that one can enjoy casually, coming in with low expectations and coming out favourably surprised, having learnt a fair bit about the region in the process and enjoyed some artefacts and artworks of pretty high calibre. Excellent time investment with the option to walk away if the content doesn't arise any interest.
