Borough Market

Borough Market - by Fabio Raposo on Google
Description
Borough Market is one of London's largest and oldest food markets - the building is from the mid-19th century but the first market on this site goes back to the 12th century! Originally a wholesale market, today it mainly sells speciality foods (a lot of it is imported from other European countries) to the public and is surrounded by several restaurants.
Access & Transport
The market is located just south of London Bridge, in the Southwark neighbourhood. London Bridge underground station is 300m away from the market and there are bus stops very close by on Southwark St and Borough High St.
Instructions & Recommendations
We would recommend going mid-morning to browse the stalls and have a snack or lunch time. Any time is good really! A visit to the market is best combined with a discovery of the Southward neighbourhood, possibly checking out HMS Belfast and/or the views from The Shard viewing platforms.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. Socially slightly positive as it supports smaller producers
Conclusion
Borough Market is a bit of a foodie institution is London. Yes, it has become very touristy and the prices sometimes excessive but there is a lot of variety and quality products, so it is always a pleasure to spend some time there, buy a handful of articles and maybe grab a coffee, snack or meal in the market or in the surrounding cafes / restaurants. Also, great atmosphere in the days leading up to Christmas.

Key negative
Getting crowded at times, victim of its own success
Prices are also getting very touristy…
