Bustronome London - 4 course lunch

Victoria Embankment, Greater London, England

Description

The Bustronome 4 course lunch consists in a sightseeing journey within London, seated on the upper deck of a bus with panoramic roof whilst being served a high quality 4-course lunch. The route covers Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Cirus, part of Westminster, the London Eye, St Paul's, and Tower bridge, among other highlights. The adult meal consists of 2 starters, 1 main dish and 1 dessert - wine pairing is available at an extra cost but needs to be pre-ordered as the British regulation doesn't allow sales in vehicles. For children up to 12 years old the menu consists of 3 dishes.

Access & Transport

The pick-up point for the lunch is at 12h15 sharp at Victoria Embankment (WC2N 6PB), coach bay 40B (at the time of this review). This is next to Embankment underground station and close to Charing cross train and underground stations. Some bus stops along the Strand, 400m away. The bus is accessible to people with reduced mobility but requires the assistance of the crew to help climb and sit on the upper deck.

Instructions & Recommendations

Please ensure that you are on time and that the operator has been notified of any food restrictions and allergies ahead of time - likewise if you are bringing a baby. The Bustronome website FAQ page is quite helpful (https://www.bustronome.com/en/london/faq/)

Meta review

This activity still flies a bit under the radar, which is unsurprising given the limited seating capacity of the bus. The customers reviews are overwhelmingly positive - about both the food and the experience. There are a few negative reviews that either deal with logistical problems or that seem outright malicious as they are in complete contradiction with the other 90%

Environmental & Social

Bus transport has a carbon footprint - EV would be better.

Conclusion

The Bustronome 4 course lunch is, in our opinion, a gem of an activity, combining quality and concept originality. Lunch will be a more viable choice than dinner for many and doesn't represent a significant pick up in budget over a comparable food offering in a fancy restaurant. Tourists should enjoy it, but this is also an original option for a date or special social occasion.

Key positive

Good quality food with wine pairing option

Great views through the panoramic roof

Scenery keeps changing and customers can take in some of the city most celebrated monuments

Key negative

Not a small budget

Essentially a fixed menu - that will not appeal to all potential customers

Suitability

Suitable for all ages but would not recommend bringing kids under 6-8 yrs old given the price. Accessible to customers with reduced mobility but will require assistance of crew - wheelchairs are stored on the lower deck.
