The Regent's Park, London

York Bridge, Greater London, England

Description

The Regent's Park is one of London's Royal Parks, it is located north of Regent's Street, between the Marylebone neighbourhood and Primrose Hill. It came into possession of the Crown in the 16th century and was originally used for hunting and farming (times have changed it seems) before being turned into a park in the early 1800s. The Park has an outer ring called the Outer Circle measuring 4.5km along which the Regent's canal (northwest) and the London Zoo (north) can be found. Other features include Queen's Mary Garden in the Inner Circle, the Boating Lake and several sports grounds and facilities.

Access & Transport

The Park is well served by public transport with 2 underground stations on its southern edge: Regent's Park, Great Portland Street and 3 other stations within walking distance: Baker Street, St John's Wood and Camden Town. There are also conveniently located bus stops on Marylebone Rd, Park Rd, and Prince Albert rd. Metered parking is available in the park.

Instructions & Recommendations

Please double check closing time before heading out - those vary depending on the month and generally coincide with dusk. We recommend combining a walk (and picnic?) in the park with a visit to the London Zoo, a walk or boat trip along the canal until Camden Town or one of the attractions in the Baker Street area.

Meta review

The reviews for the park are overall extremely positive with visitors enjoying the vast green expanses as a break from the city and the views of the boating lake on a sunny day. Somehow there are negative comments, most of which are perplexing, the most relevant ones center around the so-so service at some of the cafes and the fact that there is not much to see really.

Environmental & Social

A very green activity. Positive for the community as green spaces makes for a better living environment

Conclusion

The Regent's Park make for a nice walk, in particular if you intend to make your way to the Zoo or Camden Town or happen to be in the Baker Street / Marylebone area. However, it may not warrant a special trip as there is no impressive or memorable feature.
