SEA LIFE London Aquarium

Westminster Bridge Road, Greater London, England

Description

The Sea Life London Aquarium holds 3 Aquarium zones: (i) Coral Kingdom - a living coral reef with regal tangs, cardinal fishes and clown fishes, (ii) Ocean Invaders - introducing visitors to the world of jellyfishes and (iii) Rainforest Adventure with its piranhas, spiders and other Amazonian crawling creatures. There is also a polar section where visitors can see Gentoo penguins.

Access & Transport

The Aquarium is located right next to the London Eye (so it is easy to visually orientate yourself), on the riverbank, diagonally across the Palace of Westminster / Big Ben. The Waterloo underground and train stations are located a couple of streets back, a short 5mins walk away and Westminster underground station is across the Westminster Bridge - so that is a total of 6 underground lines available to get there. Several bus routes serve the area as well and one can walk from the Westminster neighbourhood.

Instructions & Recommendations

We would recommend combining this attraction with the London Eye next door and any of the Westminster based attractions such as Westminster Abbey and a visit of the UK Parliament.

Meta review

Visitor reviews of this aquarium are fairly uneven and there clearly are a lot of fake entries on the web. A majority of people have a good time with their kids, but a fair number is a little underwhelmed

Environmental & Social

The fish tanks and enclosures are quite small. Management tries to minimize the attraction's environmental footprint by reducing their use of plastic and packaging. Animals in captivity.

Conclusion

In our opinion, the aquarium is a good way to spend half a day as a family, the kids should enjoy it. However, the attraction is by no means world class, so we would not recommend it to visitors who want experiences that are unique to the city.

Key positive

Aquariums are always a relaxing and kid-friendly attraction

Central location, close to other tourist hotspots

Key negative

Quite small by international standards

Too expensive for what it is

Lighting could be improved

Suitability

Suitable for all ages, including younger children. Wheelchair friendly with lift to floors and a ramp at the entrance.
