The view from the Shard

Description
The View from the Shard consists of 2 viewing platforms in the Shard, London tallest building. The first one is indoor on level 69 and the second has an outdoor gallery on level 72, 244m above ground level. From there views extend to 60km on a clear day. The Shard is well known for its distinctive spire-like structure designed by architect Renzo Piano.
Access & Transport
Access to the viewing is via high-speed lifts with a transfer on the 33rd floor. London Bridge train and underground stations are located on either side of the building and the closest bus stops are on Tooley st (100m away) and London Bridge. There is no parking in the immediate vicinity so best to come by public transport or walking from/to another activity in the area.
Instructions & Recommendations
There are limited tickets available on the day, so it is best to book in advance. A guaranteed option can also be bought to enable a return visit for free in case visibility is very poor. We recommend combining this activity with a visit of HMS Belfast, London Bridge and/or Borough Market.
Environmental & Social
The construction of skyscrapers is always resources intensive, but The Shard developers have gone the extra mile to maximize the use of recycled materials and steelwork. The building also has an excellent BREEAM rating and is comparatively efficient to run (as compared to other tall buildings). We therefore deem the activity to be marginally negative from an environment standpoint. Socially neutral considering the tight health and safety standards of the construction industry in the UK.
Conclusion
The Views from the Shard are unique and amazing, or at least that's the idea. On this one we'll actually go against the flow and disagree: yes, the structure is impressive and this the highest vantage point in the city but that doesn't necessarily make it the best views (too high up and far away to get the right perspective) and offers a poor experience to price ratio. If height is the rating criteria, then the mountains are many times more impressive and cost much less. We think most visitors pay for the idea of something and for the Instagram validation...
Key positive
The panoramic view from the tallest skyscraper in London is truly impressive
Time in the galleries is not limited and there is a bar if you fancy an altitude drink
Key negative
Long queues and can be crowded as well
Very expensive
Suitability
Suitable for all ages but would not recommend bringing younger children who may not remember considering the price. The viewing galleries are accessible to customers with reduced mobility.
