The aquarium is on Rainbow Harbor, 800m (10mins walk) from 'Downtown Long Beach' metro station (A line) and close to exit 1C from I-710S. The 'passport bus' is an option within Long Beach itself Parking is on the water side of Shoreline Drive between Chestnut Place and Aquarium Way. ($8/day with Aquarium validation) Accessibility info: https://www.aquariumofpacific.org/visit/accessibility

Instructions & Recommendations

Everyone must have a timed ticket or online reservation before coming to the Aquarium and advanced reservations are required for weekends, holidays, and special events.

Meta review

Online reviews are relatively mixed with many visitors rating the aquarium as either 'average' or 'ok'. The Octopus, Jellyfish and Otters are highlights for many but the place can be crowded with children (presumably school trips) and it is too commercially oriented with expensive admission + parking + top-ups for feeding.

Environmental & Social

Involved in breeding and rescue projects: https://www.aquariumofpacific.org/conservation/saving_endangered_species LEED Platinum building + education around sustainable practices: https://www.aquariumofpacific.org/conservation/sustainability

Conclusion

Good aquarium but not very good value and, for international travellers, it can't compare to some of the best in the world - despite pricing itself to suggest that it belongs to that top tier

Key positive

Good variety of species with a regional section

Involved in conservation activities

Key negative

Expensive

Can be crowded

Suitability

Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility and strollers
