Disneyland Park (1 day)

1313 Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, California

Description

Disneyland is an amusement park located in Anaheim, next to Los Angeles, California. It was the very first Disney Park imagined and supervised by Walt Disney himself, opening in 1955 and expanded several times since then, including with the opening of a sister park next to it: Disney California Adventure Park. It is the most visited theme park in the USA after Magic Kingdom Park (Disney World in Orlando, Florida). It is known for its parades and characters, firework shows, rides and theming across 9 'lands': Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country, Mickey's Toontown and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Some of the best rides include Space Mountain, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, “it’s a small world”, Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones Adventure.

Access & Transport

The park is in Anaheim is 50km from downtown LA, just off the I-5 (exit 110B) and 150km from San Diego (I-5 exit 110). Meta review

The park needs no introduction - probably part of the problem actually. Online reviews are extremely hard to navigate as there is an incredible number of fakes, mostly negative ones. However, the gist of visitors experience is as follows: extremely long lines, Disney is out to gouge customers with egregious prices (tickets + cut the line systems + F&B + hotels), the park is very crowded, some excellent rides when they do function, good shows and lively atmosphere, characters for children, a few healthy food options (surprisingly) and an irritating app-based food ordering process. Suffice is to say that some love it no matter what, and many won't be returning.

Environmental & Social

Disney has ambitious environmental goals for 2030 at the group level such as net zero emissions and 100% zero carbon electricity. The park itself has various sustainability initiatives (water conservation use of biodiesel, etc.) but the attractions themselves remain very energy intensive. On the social & community front, Disney Resort is a major employer locally with diversity and inclusion policies.

Conclusion

This is not the type of attraction where people are hesitating most of the time - which is a shame because it means no accountability for the operator and Disney is having a field day with their pricing. In a nutshell, it is an exceptional park, for children in particular, but we do not think it is worth the trouble and expenses. If you don't mind spending your day and hard-earned dollars waiting in the queues, then this is an excellent option.
