Description
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County has three floors of permanent exhibits devoted to animal habitats, dinosaurs, pre-Columbian cultures as well as a Nature Lab and a Discovery Center and Insect Zoo. The elegant building from the early 20th century is notable for its rotunda with marble columns, stained glass dome and a striking Beaux-Arts statue by Julia Bracken Wendt entitled Three Muses, or "History, Science and Art".
Access & Transport
The museum is in Exposition Park, just off I-110 (exit 20A/20B). The NHM car park is located on Bill Robertson Lane, just south of Exposition Boulevard. Cost is $15-18. Station 'Expo / Vermont' and "Expo Park / USC' (Line E) are both 3 mins walk away along Exposition Blvd and there are bus stops (102, 550) there as well. The NHM is one of the best cultural choices in Los Angeles for families. The collections are extensive and exhibits of good quality, including a striking Hall of Dinosaurs, and pricing is reasonable. Worth visiting for adults as well by the way!
