Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood

3400 Warner Boulevard, Burbank, California

Description

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood allows visitors to discover some of the Warner Bros. studios set in Burbank, in northern Los Angeles. The 'Studio Tour' lasts about 3h, of which 1h is guided, and is structured as follows: Soundstage (stage of a current production not actively filming on that day), The Backlot (outdoor sets), The Archive (props and costumes from famous shows and movies such as the DC Extended Universe and Harry Potter), Picture Car Vault (cars used on screen such as the Batmobiles) and Stage 48: Script to Screen (takes guests through the production process with interactive exhibits).

Access & Transport

The studios are located close to the north-western part of Griffith Park, at 3400 Warner Blvd in Burbank. Parking is $15 per vehicle. Buses 155, 222, 501 and 549 stop about 5mins walk away around W Olive Ave and 'Riverside / Hollywood Way'.

Instructions & Recommendations

Take note: children under the age of 5 are not permitted on any studio tour. Ages 5 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult

Meta review

Online reviews are mostly good and even excellent for many, but this is far from being unanimous. Overall, visitors enjoy the technical aspects of the tour (as compared to Universal) such as explanations around CGI, the use of green screens, sound layering as well as the preparation that goes into the sets. However, the experience clearly differs when it comes down to the various stages with international audiences not necessarily very interested in all the US TV series (a bit of Friends and Sheldon overdose it seems) and left wanting for more movie-related content. As for the price, there are a few comments about it being a little overpriced for the tour and stupidly priced for the photo souvenirs that they try to sell to visitors.

Environmental & Social

Everything there is quite energy intensive BUT those are working studios so essentially everything is 'repurposed' for the tour. We thus deem this activity neutral on both E&S fronts.

Conclusion

Probably a highlight of a trip to L.A. for US series fans but those more into the movies, including the technical production aspects, are likely to come out with mixed feelings: some good parts but could have been better and certainly cheaper.
