Monsempron-Libos market - by Pierre Jezraoui on Google
Description
The Market of Monsempron-Libos is held weekly on Thursday mornings on the main square of the village. It is considered one of the best in the Lot et Garonne department in southwestern France. There are over 200 stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and meat and locally produced delicacies.
Access & Transport
The closest large town is Agen 55kms away: take the N21 until Villeneuve sur Lot and then the D911. Train is also an option with regional services from Agen headed to Perigueux stopping in town (65mins ride).
Instructions & Recommendations
When you are there, make sure to also take a look at the Château Prieural. We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the Bonaguil Castle (12km away).
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral. The small regional producers' aspect is a positive from a social perspective.
Conclusion
The weekly market of Monsempron Libos is worth a visit if you happen to be in the region on a Thursday. It is authentic and attracts little foreign tourists so do not expect English and other languages to be spoken very widely but the friendliness of the people and quality of the products easily obviate that issue - the perfect opportunity to brush on your rusty french. If the day is not a match you should be able to find alternatives in other villages.
