Croix Rousse e-bike tour (LBT)

23 Quai Romain Rolland, Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Description

Lyon Bike Tour organizes several ebikes guided tours in Lyon, in groups of 2-8 people. The "Canuts" tour reviewed here can be booked either in French or English and takes 3h, starting from the Old Lyon, crossing the city centre and going up the slopes of the Croix Rousse district where the Canuts silk weavers were workings in the 19th century. For background, Lyon was the largest center of factory workers in the country at the time and it is in Croix-Rousse that the first labour revolts took place in 1831, 1834 and 1848. The tour takes on the following highlights: Terreaux square, Rouville square, Croix Rousse Boulevard, the Canuts painting wall, the Gros caillou esplanade, Colbert square, the Roman amphitheatre, the Lyonnais painting wall, the banks of the Saône river, and The Lyonnais Fresco. This will be topped by a short food tasting.

Access & Transport

The meeting point is at the Danish pub (Le Pub Danois) at 23 Quai Romain Rolland (in the Vieux yon), at 9h15 for the morning tour and 14h45 for the afternoon one. The guide will carry an orange flag The meeting point is located near the Cathedral, roughly equidistant from the Lyon Saint Paul train and TER station and Vieux Lyon-Cathédrale Saint-Jean metro and funicular station (D, F1, F2).

Meta review

We have to discount a lot of reviews, but overall feedback seems positive, highlighting the quality and friendliness of the guides and the use of e-bikes as a smart way to discover the city, especially on the slopes of the Croix Rousse.

Environmental & Social

Green activity that also supports small operators

Conclusion

This guided tour is an extremely effective way to take in a good chunk of Lyon's tourist highlights in half a day with the benefit of a guide's insights. The small group aspect adds to the efficiency and introduces a social dynamic as well. The main drawback is price, affordable enough for 1 person but for a family it adds up quickly.
